Body Types and Ayurveda Diet Plan
According to WebMD, there are three body types (also known as doshas): Kapha, Pitta and Vata. Each dosha is characterized by a series of unique traits, including mental, physical and emotional differences.

These differences also affect the way you should eat and what foods are good or bad for the overall health of your body.
Understanding what works for your particular body type is key to optimal health, according to the Ayurvedic principle. For example, Vatas should avoid dried fruits and raw vegetables, while Kaphas should stay away from sour fruits.
Ayurveda Kapha Diet
Kaphas are usually people with larger body sizes. They are prone to gaining weight and retaining water easily. They can also have slower metabolisms and a tendency towards sluggish digestion, excessive sleeping, and poor circulation.
The primary goal of a healthy Ayurveda Kapha diet is to balance out their tendency to slow down.
To do that, experts recommend that Kaphas focus their diet on foods that are warm and thick. For example, Kaphas would benefit from hot liquid foods and drinks such as pureed vegetable soups, pageant spices, and hot ginger tea.
Kaphas do well on lighter foods such as fruits and vegetables, especially pungent and bitter vegetables and astringent fruit such as berries, raisins, and apples.
Ayurveda Pitta Diet
Pittas are the “middle ground” of doshas. They’re more balanced, usually of medium weight and a warm body temperature. They also tend to have good digestion, but they can suffer from heartburn and peptic ulcers when their lives are out of balance or they are stressed out.
The Ayurveda Pitta diet requires foods that are calming and comforting, such as dairy products (except sour and fermented foods), sweeter fruits, and oils with less heating properties (good choices are olive and coconut oils).
When choosing spices, Pittas need to stay away from those that produce heat. That means coriander, saffron and cilantro are good choices, but black pepper and mustard seed are not.
Ayurveda Vata Diet
Vatas are the most active type of people. They’re always on the go and are energetic and lean. Vatas usually don’t have issues with weight but can have a sensitive stomach and might suffer from digestive problems and constipation.
Because Vatas tend to be on the light side, the Ayurveda Vata diet should focus on larger portions (without overeating).
Vatas also do better with heavier, sweeter fruits that provide not only more nutrition, but also more calories. Because of this, Vatas should eat more coconut, figs, bananas and avocados.
Vatas should also make sure they get enough dairy, though low-fat choices are best to avoid digestive issues.
