Good Fats

Good FatsGood fats are essential fats that the body needs for proper nerve functions, increasing immunity, healthy absorption of vitamins and nutrients and maintaining healthy cells.

What Are Good Fats?

They are found in plants like coconut, walnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, avocado, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds and sesame. They are also found in oils like olive oil and coconut oil.

Types of Good Fats

There are two types of good fats called monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat.

Monounsaturated fat is a type of fat that is liquid form in room temperature and turns to solid when chilled. From a chemical perspective, it contains one double bonded carbon in the molecule. Olive oil, avocados and nuts are good sources of monounsaturated fat. It lowers cholesterol level, reduces risk of breast cancer, burns belly fat and increases the body’s ability to lose weight.

Polyunsaturated fat on the other hand, has more than one double bonded carbon in the molecule. It is liquid either in room temperature or when chilled. Plant based foods and oils contain polyunsaturated fats. Omega3 fatty acid is a type of polyunsaturated fats found in fishes such as mackerel, tuna, herring, anchovies and sardines.

Both of these good fats play an important role in keeping the body strong and healthy. Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble vitamins. This means that these vitamins actually NEED essential fats to be able to be absorbed and stored in the body.

Eat Goods Fats For Weight Loss

Good fats do aid in weight loss. They enhance metabolism, the body’s ability to burn fat and turn them and other food substance into energy. Increase in body’s metabolism fights weight gain and obesity, while slow metabolism increases weight gain.

As a matter of fact, some studies suggest that good fats are essential and low-fat diets are actually not effective in the long run.

Good Fats and Stress

Did you know that stress and depression can lead to slow metabolism? Omega 3 fatty acids help in losing weight caused by stress and anxiety by easing their symptoms. They enhance brain cells and nerve functions to elevate mood and relieve stress. They also improve quality of sleep. Lack of sleep tends to slow down metabolism while better quality of sleep improves metabolism.

Good Fats and Health

The human body is made of millions of cells. When these cells are damaged, the body becomes weak and more prone to sickness. Good fats nourish each cell membrane to keep them healthy and to maintain a strong immune system. They regulate normal blood sugar and blood pressure. They also prevent risks of developing life threatening diseases like colon, breast and prostate cancer.

Good fats improve blood circulation by lowering down cholesterol, eliminating unhealthy fats and fighting plaque buildup in the arteries. This process keeps the nervous system healthy and prevents risks of coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases.

Choose Good Fats!

Most foods contain fats; however it is best to choose good fats. Considering them as part of a healthy diet will lead to a healthier and sexier body! An added bonus is that they don’t just promote a physically fit body, they also promote a holistic well being thereby improving the quality of your life.
