Tracking your weightThere are a few different benefits of tracking your weight whether you are trying to lose, gain, or maintain weight.

When you are trying to attain a new goal, whether it is to build muscle, put on mass, lose weight, or get back to the weight you were at a few years ago, tracking, and looking back is essential to attaining those goals.

Benefits Of Tracking Your Weight

Patterns

When you track your weight, you are going to see different patterns over time. Some of the things you are going to notice include:

  • the patterns between what you were eating, and whether you were gaining, losing, or maintaining weight;
  • patterns in weight between different exercise, weight lifting, and weight management routines;
  • whether you were on a particular diet (low carb, high protein, etc), when you were at the weight you are currently trying to reach; and,
  • what age you were the last time you were at the body weight you are trying to reach.

By tracking your weight, and taking notes about all of these additional things, you will see what you were doing then, and what you are currently doing (as far as diet and exercise), so you can determine which changes have to be made in order to reach your goals.

Diet

If you are trying to lose or gain weight, you will also find that tracking your diet (what you are eating), is critical along with tracking your weight. By writing down everything you are eating, the time you eat, how much you eat, and how many calories you are consuming (at a certain body weight), it is going to be easy to see where you were doing well, and what changes have to be made. If at a certain point you were gaining weight, you can see what was leading to the gain; and, if you were lower in weight at a certain point, you can easily track what you were eating at that time, so that you can get back to a particular weight level.

Time & Body Changes

Regardless of how much you work out, or how healthy the diet is, over time, your body is going to change. So, by tracking your weight on a weekly, monthly, and even yearly basis, you can see those changes. And, even though you may gain a few pounds over the years, you are still going to be able to better maintain the desired weight, if you know what you were doing when you were at your ideal body weight.

Keeping track of your weight, what you eat, and how often you workout, are some important things that will help you lose weight!
